Stabbed through the chest with his own sword, and a body that’s been dead long enough to get to its own funeral, it would seem like the valiant He-Man has at last met his end.
DC Comics’ crossover event, He-Man/Thundercats sees longtime Thundercats foe Mumm-Ra force worlds to literally near-collide in order to get his grey mitts on the Sword of Power. Under the guise of one of He-Man’s allies, he quickly rests the sword from He-Man in his human form. Mortally wounded, He-Man is forced to stay transformed to stay alive, but is forced to return to his human injuries once his source of might is usurped by none other than his longtime foe – Skeletor.
While the Kingdom of Eternia mourns their fallen hero, savvier comics fans know of the impermanence of a protagonist’s death – especially not when the titular character hasn’t even yet met the other titular characters! With three issues left to go, there’s room a-plenty for a timely resurrection. That being said, the series is definitely worth checking out on its own merits. Fast-paced action and writing that manages both hilarity and depth manages to give the properties of both the Thundercats and He-Man the awesomeness their fans deserve to see.
Plus. Skeletor is forced to team up with Mumm-Ra because the former drank a potion of the latter’s ashes and now they’re stuck sharing a body. This is exactly as fun as you might imagine.
