The leaps and bounds technology has taken in Dubai can be seen from the way we interact with people and things on a daily basis. Not long ago, we used to get out of our cars with some change in our pockets so that we could by a parking ticket. Now we can just text a number instead. Once we used to queue up at Etisalat service stations to pay our bills with envelopes and briefcases filled with cash. Now we can just use the Etisalat mobile app instead. The level of effort we have to put into once arduous tasks has reached an all-time low and that’s a good thing. As a result, when I was shown an app that can help me book and arrange for expert handymen to come straight to my house to help with a variety of household problems, I was sold.
Swiffix is an app that let’s you book experts of the household variety. Got a leaky pipe? You can get a plumber with Swiffix. Given up with installing that piece of Ikea furniture? Swiffix can get you a handyman to do it for you. It’s summer and air conditioners are prone to failing, with Swiffix you can get someone to come take a look at it and repair it. When you open up Swiffix for the first time you’re presented with a choice of categories in which you need help in:Handyman, Electrical, Plumbing, Outdoor and Car Services. Currently car services aren’t available. Swiping left, opens up the side menu which isn’t cluttered as most side menus tend to be. You can register or login initially and once you have an account you can use the same side menu to keep track of your jobs, redeem a promotion or change some account settings.
Selecting one of the categories, Handyman for instance, then gives you a selection of jobs you need completed such as painting, installing curtains, etc. I needed to have a couple of shelves installed so I picked hanging & mounting and then you’re asked how many items (and their sizes) you need installed. It’s an easy process; you can just tap the number and the estimated bill amount is updated in the bottom. Furthermore you can attack images of the thing that needs installing/repairing/cleaning and if you’re not too sure what option to select, you can have someone come take a look, for a fee. What’s best is you can also add another service, but only from the same category. Once you’re done you can request Swiffix!
You’ll need to select your location via the map and also supply some information such as your building name and apartment number. Once that’s done, you can choose to save the location and then you’re prompted to enter in your credit card details, which you can either do manually or have accomplished by scanning said card. Unfortunately there is no pay by cash option which could be a bit of a deterrence to users. After that you can review the job, change the service date and time (by default it’s immediately) and even alter your account settings, such as the phone number. An estimation of the eta of the expert as well as how long the job will take are also displayed. Once you’re satisfied you can confirm your request. Then you’re free to do as you please or, if like me, you had an afternoon to waste, you can track the job via the job tracker in the side menu, which shows both active and completed jobs
The experts themselves are polite and helpful, but if you think the job wasn’t performed as well as it could have been, you can request a refund thanks to the money back guarantee! As a result Swiffix is a fantastic little app that’ll ensure you can always enlist the help of household experts from your smartphone.
