Barely a few minutes after the first episode of Game of Thrones season 6 came out, the internet was already abuzz with theories, criticisms and spoilers. Some of us were lucky enough to watch the episode as soon as it came out, while others followed close behind. Unfortunately, many were mown down by the torrent of spoilers posted over social media as they did their best to trudge through the working day before coming home and watching it in peace. So what do you do when you have that one person on your friends list who updates their status every minute as they watch Game of Thrones, transforming your timeline into a badly written puff piece for Buzzfeed?
You install Spoiler Shield offcourse.
You’ll have to login using either a Facebook or Twitter account first off all; unfortunately spoilers are only blocked on those platforms for now. The app works by detecting any reference to the show and then blocking it out on your news feed. Furthermore, it doesn’t just stop spoilers about Game of Thrones from cluttering your timeline, it also blocks spoilers from other TV shows, sports games and even who won the Oscar for best acting at the Academy Awards. However it isn’t perfect; some obscure references do slip through that, could be jargon to anyone who doesn’t watch a show, can reveal some aspect about a recent episode of a show you haven’t watched. Nevertheless it still performed admirably during my testing of the app, blocking spoilers about the recent Arrow and Flash episode from appearing on my Facebook and Twitter timelines.
You can download Spoiler Shield from the Apple App Store here, the Google Play Store here and as a Google Chrome extension here.
