Upcoming watchOS 11: a deeper look at the new vitals app and training load feature

Apple's watchOS 11 beta introduces a new Vitals app for comprehensive health tracking, consolidating key metrics like heart rate and sleep duration. The Training Load feature analyzes workout intensity to help users optimize their exercise routine. Additionally, the Smart Stack has been updated and Activity Rings are now customizable.

Apple’s upcoming watchOS 11, while not as groundbreaking as its predecessor, still introduces exciting features for Apple Watch users. Two of the most significant additions are the new Vitals app and the Training Load feature.

Vitals App: A Comprehensive Health Dashboard

The Vitals app, now conveniently located on your Apple Watch, consolidates overnight health metrics previously scattered across your iPhone’s Health app. It presents a unified view of your heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen levels, and sleep duration, making it easier to track and understand your overall health status.

The Vitals app goes beyond mere data collection. By establishing typical ranges for each metric based on your sleep patterns, it allows you to quickly gauge whether your readings are within normal parameters. If two or more metrics fall outside the typical range, the app intelligently notifies you, taking into account potential factors like medications, altitude, alcohol consumption, or illness. This proactive approach empowers you to make informed decisions about your health and well-being.

Training Load: Optimize Your Workouts

Training Load, another new feature in watchOS 11, leverages your sleep data to help you fine-tune your exercise routine.By analyzing the intensity and duration of your workouts over the past week and comparing them to your 28-day average,it classifies your current training load on a scale ranging from “well below” to “well above.”

This valuable insight enables you to identify whether you’re overtraining or undertraining, allowing you to adjust your workout intensity and frequency accordingly. Additionally, after completing most cardio workouts, you’ll receive an effort metric summarizing how strenuous your exercise was.

Stay Tuned for More Updates

While these are the most notable features revealed so far, Apple is likely to unveil more enhancements as the watchOS 11 beta testing progresses. Stay tuned for further updates as we delve deeper into the exciting world of watchOS 11 and its potential to transform your Apple Watch experience.
