How to choose the right WiFi router

Here are some tips on how to choose the right WiFi router:

  1. Consider your needs. How many devices will be connected to your router at the same time? What types of activities will you be using it for, such as streaming video, gaming, or online work? If you have a large home or multiple floors, you may need a more powerful router with a wider range.
  2. Check your internet speed. Your router needs to be able to support the speed of your internet plan. If you have a gigabit internet plan, you’ll need a router that can handle speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps).
  3. Look for the latest wireless standard. The latest wireless standard is WiFi 6E, which offers faster speeds and better performance than older standards like WiFi 5 and WiFi 4. If you have devices that support WiFi 6E, you’ll want to get a router that supports it as well.
  4. Decide on a band type. WiFi routers come in single-band, dual-band, and tri-band varieties. Single-band routers operate on the 2.4 GHz band only, which is more prone to interference from other devices. Dual-band routers operate on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which gives you more options for reducing interference. Tri-band routers add a third 5 GHz band, which can further improve performance in congested areas.
  5. Consider additional features. Some routers offer additional features like parental controls, guest networking, and Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization. Parental controls allow you to restrict access to certain websites and apps for your children. Guest networking allows you to create a separate Wi-Fi network for guests, which can help to improve security and privacy. QoS prioritization allows you to prioritize certain types of traffic, such as gaming or video streaming, so that they get the best possible performance.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Read reviews before you buy a router. This can help you to learn about the pros and cons of different models and to choose the best one for your needs.
  • Consider buying a router from a reputable brand. This will help you to ensure that you are getting a quality product with good customer support.
  • Don’t forget to factor in the cost of the router when making your decision. WiFi routers can range in price from around AED 200 to AED 1500 or more.

Once you have chosen a router, be sure to follow the instructions carefully when setting it up. This will help to ensure that you get the best possible performance from your new device.
