Casio revisits the Upside Down with a new wave of Stranger Things watches

Casio is expanding its catalog of pop culture collaborations with a new set of limited-edition watches tied to Stranger Things, timed to coincide with the release of the show’s fifth and final season. The release marks the second collaboration between Casio’s G-Shock brand and the Netflix series, following an earlier partnership that leaned heavily into 1980s nostalgia and digital-era design cues.

The new collection consists of two models, the DW-5600STT-1 and the AQ-800EST-1A, each drawing from the visual language of Stranger Things rather than directly recreating props from the show. The designs reference the series’ recurring theme of parallel worlds, particularly the Upside Down, using subtle graphic elements and color choices instead of overt branding across the watch faces.

The DW-5600STT-1 is built on the long-running DW-5600 platform, a square digital watch that has remained largely unchanged for decades. In this version, the dial incorporates vine-like graphics associated with Vecna, one of the show’s central antagonists. The red LED backlight echoes the series’ frequent use of warning colors and emergency lighting, while a reversed “A” in the backlight text nods to the distorted logic of the Upside Down. A small “011” marking on the band loop references Eleven, one of the show’s core characters. The watch is packaged in a themed box featuring imagery tied to the series’ monsters and alternate dimension.

The AQ-800EST-1A takes a different approach, combining analog and digital displays in a slimmer profile. Its dial also features vine motifs, with raised metallic hour markers rendered in the Stranger Things typeface. The case back carries the series logo, while the clasp is engraved with “001,” another reference to Vecna’s role in the show’s mythology. Like the DW-5600STT-1, it ships in custom packaging designed specifically for the collaboration.

From a functional standpoint, the watches largely mirror their standard counterparts. The DW-5600STT-1 offers shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, stopwatch and timer functions, alarms, and an LED backlight with afterglow. The AQ-800EST-1A includes water resistance, a 1/100-second stopwatch, daily alarm, and hourly time signal. No new technical features are introduced beyond the cosmetic changes tied to the collaboration.

The watches are being released in limited quantities through selected G-Shock stores and authorized retailers. While Casio positions the launch as a celebration of Stranger Things’ final season on Netflix, the collaboration also reflects the continued demand for crossover products that blend legacy hardware with modern entertainment franchises. For collectors and fans, the appeal is likely less about innovation and more about how effectively the designs translate a familiar fictional world onto everyday objects.
