Sega’s Crazy Taxi reboot takes an unexpected MMO turn

Hold onto your hats, gamers! Sega’s upcoming Crazy Taxi reboot is taking a wild detour into the realm of massively-multiplayer online gaming. That’s right, you’ll soon be able to race your fellow cabbies across an open-world California-inspired map, dodging convertible police cars (yes, you read that right) and competing for fares in a chaotic multiplayer frenzy.

This bold move was revealed in a recent developer interview, where series producer Kenji Kanno confirmed that the reboot will embrace MMO elements while staying true to the core gameplay that made the franchise a cult classic. Leaked footage even shows multiple yellow taxis vying for the lead, reminiscent of the chaotic races from previous entries.

The map itself promises a theme park-like atmosphere, reminiscent of the vibrant and quirky environments that defined the original games. With Sega investing significant resources into this AAA title, expectations are high for a visually stunning and immersive experience.

While the open-world aspect seems like a natural evolution for the franchise, the MMO twist has left some fans scratching their heads. Will the multiplayer element enhance the chaotic fun or detract from the core experience? Only time will tell when the game finally hits the streets.

The Crazy Taxi reboot is just one of many nostalgic revivals planned by Sega. The company has announced plans to modernize classic franchises like Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage. However, one glaring omission remains: the infamous Seaman, a quirky and unsettling virtual pet simulator that continues to haunt our dreams.

So buckle up, gamers, and prepare for a wild ride with the Crazy Taxi MMO. It’s sure to be a crazy, chaotic, and possibly controversial experience, but hey, that’s what makes it fun, right?
