Overwatch 2 launches Phantom Thieves crossover event September 16–29

Blizzard has announced a limited-time Overwatch 2 crossover with the Phantom Thieves from Persona 5, running from September 16 to 29. The event introduces a lineup of themed skins, map details, and UI changes designed to merge the style and energy of the Persona universe with Overwatch’s fast-paced team battles.

The crossover features several hero-skin pairings inspired by the Phantom Thieves: Mercy as Panther, Wuyang as Joker, Lifeweaver as Fox, D.Va as Queen, and Genji as Skull. Each skin incorporates visual flourishes that draw from Persona 5’s signature look, such as rose petals falling from Mercy’s Panther wings and paint-splash effects that trail certain characters as they move.

Beyond cosmetics, the event hub and interface adopt Persona 5’s distinct visual style, including Phantom Thieves-inspired overlays for the in-game shop. Key art for the collaboration was created by Persona series artist Shigenori Soejima, further tying the crossover to its source material.

Developers highlighted how character choices were made with narrative parallels in mind. For example, Wuyang was selected for the Joker skin in part because both characters share student origins before joining larger groups. The team also teased Easter eggs hidden across maps, including entrances to locations familiar to Persona fans.

“The dev team has a ton of huge fans on it, and we were able to pour that passion into some cool details that might not be obvious at a glance,” said Aimee Dennett, Associate Director of Product Management.

The event runs for two weeks, giving players the chance to collect the skins and explore the Phantom Thieves’ influence on Overwatch 2’s world before it disappears from rotation.
