Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is officially heading to PlayStation 5, marking the series’ debut on Sony’s platform. Announced during the September State of Play showcase, the release brings one of Microsoft’s most recognized exclusives to a new audience, with a December 8 launch date set for both the PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Originally released in late 2024 as a follow-up to the acclaimed 2020 version, Flight Simulator 2024 builds on its predecessor with deeper simulation mechanics, a career mode featuring varied mission types, and a world designed as a “digital twin” of Earth. The PlayStation edition includes all updates and expansions already delivered to PC and Xbox players, covering upgraded regions, airports, and cities. Asobo Studio’s engine powers highly detailed landscapes, dynamic weather, and even wildlife, while a new on-foot mode allows players to step outside the cockpit and explore locations after landing.
Sony’s DualSense controller is being integrated into the experience to add tactile immersion. According to Microsoft Flight Simulator head Jorg Neumann, adaptive triggers will mimic changes in speed and terrain resistance, while air traffic control communications will play through the controller’s speaker to echo the feel of a cockpit environment. Motion controls, the lightbar, and the touchpad will also be supported for additional interactivity.
One of the more unexpected confirmations is future support for PlayStation VR2 and its Sense controllers. While not available at launch, a free update scheduled for 2026 will bring full VR functionality, giving players an even more immersive flight experience.
For launch, players who pre-order will receive the Northrop T-38A Talon as a bonus aircraft. Those opting for the Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, or Aviator Editions will also gain early access, unlocking the game on December 3.
With its move to PlayStation, Flight Simulator 2024 becomes accessible to a significantly larger audience beyond the Xbox and PC ecosystem. The announcement signals not only Microsoft’s growing willingness to share once-exclusive titles but also a notable expansion of one of the most respected simulation franchises in gaming.
