Lords of the Fallen II announced: dual realms, brutal combat, and a 2026 release

CI Games has officially unveiled Lords of the Fallen II during Gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live, confirming that the Soulslike series will continue with a new chapter set a hundred years after the events of the 2023 reboot. While the reveal was limited to a cinematic trailer and no gameplay footage was shown, the announcement offered early details about what players can expect from the sequel.

According to the developers, Lords of the Fallen II will once again immerse players in a dark fantasy world caught between two realms—the land of the living and the Umbral realm. The narrative picks up in the aftermath of an ongoing supernatural catastrophe known as the Umbral Calamity, with the boundary between life and death increasingly unstable. Even the gods have seemingly retreated, leaving the remnants of humanity to face the creeping darkness alone.

The sequel builds on systems introduced in the previous title, with particular focus on refining combat. The studio describes the updated mechanics as faster and more decisive, rewarding players who act with precision while punishing hesitation. Dodges, counters, and executions are said to flow more seamlessly, with an emphasis on high-risk, high-reward decision-making. Brutality is reportedly being taken up a notch with new execution animations and a deeper layer of tactical depth.

The dual-realm gameplay, a hallmark of the reboot, will be returning. Players will once again use the Umbral Lamp to shift between the physical and shadow worlds, a feature that allows for alternate paths, hidden areas, unique enemy encounters, and varied loot depending on the realm being explored. New abilities tied to this mechanic are also being hinted at, suggesting deeper integration of the two-world traversal into core gameplay.

Boss battles are expected to remain a major focus. Although specifics are under wraps, the cinematic footage previewed several towering enemies, reinforcing the studio’s commitment to challenging encounters that fans of the genre typically seek out.

Lords of the Fallen II is slated for release sometime in 2026 and is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. While there’s still much to be revealed, the sequel appears to be reinforcing the dual-realm formula that helped define its predecessor, with added speed and a darker atmosphere shaping its return.
