Explore the opening chapter of Hell is Us in new steam demo

Players curious about Hell is Us, the upcoming third-person action-adventure from Rogue Factor and NACON, can now experience the game’s opening chapter through a limited-time demo available on Steam. Released ahead of its full launch on September 4, 2025, the demo is accessible through June 16 and will also be highlighted during Steam Next Fest starting June 9.

This early look provides about 90 minutes of gameplay, offering a substantial introduction to the title’s unique design ethos. Rather than leaning on modern navigation aids like mini-maps or quest markers, Hell is Us takes a stripped-down approach, favoring intuition, exploration, and observation. It’s a throwback to a more self-directed style of gameplay that invites players to engage deeply with the environment and story instead of following on-screen prompts.

Set in a country devastated by civil conflict and cut off from the outside world, the game centers around Rémi, a man searching for his origins amid ruins and secrets. The environment is not only scarred by war but haunted by mysterious creatures—entities that appear to be inspired by ancient monuments and cultural relics. To face these threats, players must master a selection of melee weapons crafted specifically to counter the supernatural, using strategy and timing rather than brute force alone.

The demo serves not just as a mechanical introduction but as a narrative one, establishing the tone and worldbuilding of a game that seems to prioritize atmosphere over exposition. For players who appreciate games that trust them to find their own way—both literally and narratively—Hell is Us aims to offer a distinctive experience that resists the conventions of mainstream action titles.

Hell is Us will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The full game promises to expand upon the ideas presented in the demo, blending story-driven exploration with deliberate, close-quarters combat. For those interested in a game that favors ambiguity over guidance and intuition over instruction, the demo may be worth a closer look.
