Call of Duty is doubling down on its most enduring side mode with the reveal of Black Ops 7 Zombies. Launching November 14 alongside the main game, the new experience will open with a traditional round-based map, Ashes of the Damned, and a fresh spin on one of the series’ strangest offshoots, Dead Ops Arcade 4: Papaback in Black.
Ashes of the Damned drops players into a Dark Aether wasteland filled with familiar horrors and new threats. The map introduces Ol’ Tessie, a Wonder Vehicle designed to serve as both transport and survival tool as squads fight through the infernal landscape. Treyarch is positioning the map as a classic round-based grind, but with enough new mechanics and traversal elements to set it apart from past entries.
At the same time, Dead Ops Arcade returns for its fourth iteration. The twin-stick shooter parody mode has long been a fan favorite for its absurd tone and over-the-top chaos, and “Papaback in Black” is set to launch an entirely new chapter in its bizarre storyline.
According to the official Call of Duty blog, this Zombies cycle will expand on nearly every facet of the formula: new environments, Wonder Weapons, enemy types, and progression systems. GobbleGums are returning in an updated form, and Augments will provide additional layers of customization for how players approach matches.
The Zombies announcement comes just weeks before Black Ops 7’s release, reminding players that while the campaign and competitive multiplayer continue to evolve, Zombies remains one of the franchise’s most consistent draws. For longtime fans, the blend of classic survival design and experimental offshoots looks like Treyarch trying to balance nostalgia with reinvention.
