Pac-Man and other Namco classics join Atari 50 in new paid expansion

Atari is expanding its Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration collection with a new paid add-on featuring several Namco classics, including Pac-Man and Galaga. The expansion, titled The Namco Legendary Pack, launches November 13 across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam platforms for $8.

Developed by Digital Eclipse, the DLC deepens the existing interactive museum-style experience that Atari 50 is known for. It introduces a new timeline dedicated to Namco’s history on Atari systems, complete with archival materials, photos, documents, and developer interviews that contextualize the cultural and technical significance of these games during the early 1980s.

The Namco Legendary Pack includes several key titles in both their arcade and home-console forms. Players will find versions of Pac-Man for the Atari 2600, 5200, and 8-bit computers — the latter widely remembered as one of the most commercially successful yet divisive releases in Atari’s catalog. The pack also features the U.S. arcade versions of Dig Dug and Xevious, alongside home console editions of Galaga and Galaxian.

While Atari 50 already offers an unusually detailed look at gaming history, the addition of Namco’s early works rounds out an important chapter that had been missing from the compilation. Namco’s titles were central to Atari’s early home console success and shaped the broader arcade landscape that defined the 1980s. This latest update complements last year’s “Intellivision” expansion, which explored the first major console rivalry and Atari’s eventual acquisition of the Intellivision brand.

The upcoming DLC reinforces Atari 50’s reputation as one of the more thoughtful and preservation-minded collections in gaming. By blending archival storytelling with interactive gameplay, the Namco Legendary Pack provides a more complete picture of how Atari and Namco helped define the early years of the video game industry.
