Gran Turismo 7 is introducing the UAE Time Trial Challenge as anticipation grows for the Gran Turismo World Series Middle East debut, scheduled to take place at Space42 Arena in Abu Dhabi on 28 March 2026. The online competition is designed to spotlight local sim racing talent while building momentum ahead of the 2026 GTWS season opener.
Running from 20 February to 1 March 2026, the UAE Time Trial Challenge is open exclusively to players based in the United Arab Emirates. Participants will set their fastest lap times at Yas Marina Circuit using the Porsche 911 GT3 R (922) ’22, a modern GT race car known for its balance and technical demands. The format is straightforward: post the quickest lap and climb the national leaderboard. The top 24 drivers will qualify for the UAE GT Cup 2026, which forms part of the official Gran Turismo World Series program. In addition, the top 250 players will receive complimentary tickets to attend the live Gran Turismo World Series event in Abu Dhabi.
The structure creates a clear pathway from online competition to a live esports stage. While the time trial format removes wheel-to-wheel variables, it places emphasis on precision driving, consistency, and track knowledge. Competitors will need to refine racing lines, braking points, and throttle control to extract competitive lap times from the Yas Marina Circuit layout. Beyond leaderboard rankings, players can also earn in-game rewards, adding another layer of engagement during the 10-day window.
The Abu Dhabi event marks the first time the Gran Turismo World Series will stage a live round in the Middle East. The championship, organized by Polyphony Digital Inc., the studio behind the Gran Turismo franchise, has traditionally focused on Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Bringing the 2026 opener to the UAE reflects the broader growth of esports racing in the region and the increasing investment in gaming infrastructure.

Abu Dhabi Gaming, an initiative led by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, is supporting the event as part of its wider strategy to expand the local gaming ecosystem. The initiative has positioned itself as a connector between global publishers, esports organizers, and regional talent. Hosting a Gran Turismo World Series event aligns with that objective, offering both visibility and competitive opportunities for local players.
Gran Turismo, first released in 1997, has sold more than 100 million units worldwide. Over nearly three decades, the series has developed a reputation for its focus on realistic driving physics and detailed car modeling. Gran Turismo 7, the current installment, continues that approach while integrating online competitive structures such as the World Series.
For UAE-based players, the Time Trial Challenge offers an opportunity to transition from home setups to a live international stage. For spectators, the March event represents a notable addition to the region’s esports calendar.Gran Turismo 7 Launches UAE Time Trial Challenge Ahead of Abu Dhabi World Series Debut
