Yakuza Kiwami heads to Nintendo Switch, defying previous doubts

In a move that once seemed impossible, the iconic and notoriously mature Yakuza franchise is finally making its debut on the Nintendo Switch. The groundbreaking announcement was made during today’s Nintendo Partner Showcase, revealing that Yakuza Kiwami, a remake of the series’ first installment, will be available on the console starting October 24th.

This news is a significant departure from previous statements by series developers, who once doubted the compatibility of the Yakuza games with Nintendo’s family-friendly image. However, the Switch has evolved to cater to a broader audience, hosting a variety of mature titles in recent years.

The arrival of Yakuza Kiwami on the Switch marks a major milestone for both the franchise and the console, demonstrating the Switch’s growing appeal among mature gamers and the Yakuza series’ expanding reach. It’s a win-win for fans of both, who can now experience the gritty underworld of Kamurocho on the go.

Coincidentally, this release coincides with the premiere of the Yakuza TV series on Amazon Prime Video, showcasing a coordinated effort to expand the franchise’s presence across different entertainment platforms. It seems that the Yakuza saga is experiencing a resurgence, and fans have much to look forward to in the coming months.
