Team Liquid, one of the most recognized names in esports, took home the lion’s share of the staggering $24.7 million prize pool at this week’s The International 2017 Dota 2 Championships. They took a decisive 3-0 victory over the Chinese favourites and former TI Champions, Newbee to win a massive $10,845,490, the largest recorded prize in the history of esports.

Battling it out all the way through the lower brackets, Team Liquid also became the first team to sweep a grand final of The International as well as the first team to win from the first round of the lower brackets. With a line-up featuring some of the best players in the world, Team Liquid was more than capable of making it to the main stage But to achieve victory in this cements their place in the history of Dota 2 esports.

The line-up also features two Middle Eastern players as well, Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi (a Polish/Jordanian citizen) and Maroun “GH” Merhej, a famous Lebanese Dota 2 player who had originally joined Team Liquid as a substitute. KuroKy, the team’s captain, is a 7-time TI competitor most famous for his second place run at TI3 under team Natus Vincere.

After an impressive run at the most prestigious stage in all of esports, Team Liquid is poised at the top as we enter a new competitive season in Dota 2, structured into Minor and Major events that provide points towards qualifying teams for The International 2018.
