Roblox adds parental controls to manage friends lists and block specific games

Roblox is rolling out expanded parental controls that offer more oversight into who children interact with on the platform and what content they can access. These updates are designed to give parents more authority over how their kids use the game-based social platform, which has come under increasing scrutiny for its handling of child safety concerns.

With the latest changes, parents who have linked their accounts to their child’s can now directly block or report specific individuals on the child’s friends list. This new layer of control applies particularly to users under the age of 13. If a parent blocks someone, the child won’t be able to reverse that action without parental approval. However, kids can request for those blocks to be lifted, giving parents the final say in whether a connection is appropriate.

In addition to managing friend interactions, Roblox now lets parents restrict access to individual games—referred to as “experiences” on the platform. This goes beyond the earlier content maturity filter, which only allowed parents to block access based on a general age rating system. Now, if there’s a specific experience parents feel is unsuitable, they can block it outright, even if it falls within the platform’s approved content rating.

Children under 13 won’t be able to override these experience restrictions until they reach the age threshold, though, again, they can request access to blocked content, allowing parents to review and approve specific cases.

Another feature added with this update is a new activity summary, showing the top 20 experiences a child has spent the most time in over the past week. This gives parents a clearer window into how their child is engaging with Roblox and may help identify patterns or behaviors that require further attention.

These features follow prior efforts by Roblox to give parents more remote control over their child’s profile and interactions. Earlier changes included specialized accounts that allowed caregivers to monitor and adjust settings without logging in through the child’s profile directly.

As Roblox continues to be a popular digital space for younger users, these new parental controls aim to give families a more manageable and transparent experience. With tools to block friends and specific games, parents are better positioned to tailor the platform to their child’s needs and age level.
