Capcom’s next expansion of the Resident Evil franchise will arrive on mobile devices later this month. The new title, Resident Evil: Survival Unit, launches worldwide on November 18 for both iOS and Android, reaching more than 150 countries. The game will be free to play, with optional in-app purchases—an increasingly common model in mobile gaming and a familiar move for Capcom as it broadens its reach beyond console and PC audiences.
Survival Unit takes the survival horror series in a different direction, shifting from traditional exploration and combat to strategy-focused gameplay. Players will build and manage bases, deploy squads, and engage in real-time battles against creatures drawn from the Resident Evil universe. Early previews suggest that the game blends tactical elements with the franchise’s signature tension and atmosphere, although how it balances monetization with playability remains to be seen.
One of the more distinctive aspects of Survival Unit is its crossover approach to characters. Familiar faces such as Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Claire Redfield will appear together thanks to a multiverse narrative that ties the game’s storylines across different Resident Evil eras. This setup gives Capcom a way to mix iconic protagonists and potentially introduce additional legacy or surprise characters through future updates or events.
The project is a collaboration between Capcom, Joycity, and Aniplex. Joycity previously developed 3on3 FreeStyle Rebound, a mobile basketball title known for its live-service model, while Aniplex handled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2. Capcom describes the partnership as a “close collaboration,” suggesting that both co-developers are handling significant portions of the game’s design and online infrastructure.
For fans, Survival Unit offers a stopgap ahead of the next mainline release, Resident Evil: Requiem, scheduled for February 26, 2026. Whether this mobile spinoff will serve as a meaningful addition to the franchise or a short-lived experiment in the growing mobile strategy genre will become clearer once players get their hands on it later this month.
