Overwatch was released less than two months ago and it has already quickly made a place for itself in the first-person-shooter genre with its gorgeous maps, great variety of characters and fantastic gameplay. As a result, the game shot to fame (though most of that is due to Blizzard’s aggressive marketing campaign) after its release, though it was arguably already popular before the beta tests.
However, the $40 game, while being immensely fun did seem to be lacking in certain areas, such as maps or not enough support characters. Jeff Kaplan was quick to answer these concerns in a blog post a while back, stating that the months following Overwatch’s release would be jam packed with content. Thus, Blizzard has been true to their word, first releasing the competitive, ranked mode of Overwatch and now by teasing a new hero we’ve known has been in the works for some time.

In a tweet, the official Overwatch account displayed a log from everyone’s favourite and often underappreciated healer Mercy, who seems at odds with the fact that Torbjorn (a builder hero in Overwatch) has combined one of her healing devices into a sniper rifle. The logs are addressed to J. Morrison and G. Reyes, Soldier 76 and Reaper respectively. The rifle itself appears to be large, with a tripod and healing canisters augmenting it.
While we don’t know who exactly is wielding the support sniper rifle, easter eggs point towards two possible people we’ve read about in the extended lore of the game. Firstly, it could be Ana Amari, a highly decorated soldier and sniper who was one of the founders of Overwatch as well as being the mother of Pharah. Then there is Sombra, an unknown hero we see easter eggs off across the lore and in the Dorado map. There is also speculation that Ana, who hasn’t been since the fall of Overwatch, is actually Sombra.
It makes sense for Ana to be brought into the game, considering that she was one of the founders of Overwatch so I’ll place my bets that Ana is now Sombra, and that she’ll be the new hero. Interestingly, the Brazilian Overwatch account tweeted a slightly different picture, the main difference being that the recipients of the log also include Ana. I for one can’t wait for the 6v6 brawl mode with the new hero so that we can get the excitement out of our system quickly.
