According to Taiwan-based Digitimes, Nvidia is ready to unveil its next generation set of Maxwell-based Pascal graphics cards at Computex 2016, which runs from May 31-June 4. Sources close to major graphics card players have already begun clearing their inventory ahead of the expected launches.
As a result we can expect the Pascal based graphics cards to start hitting shelves sometime in July, with expectations that the new-generation graphics cards will increase the shipments and profits for Nvidia in the third quarter. This comes as good news as sources also indicated that the graphics card market continues to see weak demand in the first half of 2016 while most of the major players’ shipments in the second quarter are expected to drop around 10% compared to the Q1. Furthermore, not only will Nvidia be showcasing the GTX 1070 and 1080 but its partners, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI, will all have new hardware on show, featuring the 1070 and 1080 no doubt.
Hot on the heels of Nvidia is of course AMD, with rumours that the graphics card maker will also reveal their next generation Radeon R9 490 and 490X at Computex. They will allegedly utilise Polaris technology but may not be seen as a direct competitor to the GTX 1070 and 1080 due to Polaris’ focus on power efficiency compared to performance; the AMD graphics cards will be great for laptop GPUs and other portables but not for desktop PCs.
