Blizzard has announced Across the Timeways, the next expansion for Hearthstone, set to launch on October 28. The update adds 145 new cards and introduces two fresh mechanics, while weaving the game’s usual lore-driven storytelling into a time-travel theme.
At the center of the expansion is Chromie, the Bronze Dragonflight’s chronomancer, who sets out to prevent Murozond, Lord of the Infinite, from unraveling the timelines. To do so, she enlists heroes drawn from the past, future, and alternate realities of the Warcraft universe.
Two new keywords form the backbone of the expansion’s mechanics. Fabled introduces iconic characters that bring extra Legendary cards along with them, automatically slotted into a player’s deck. Each class will get a unique Fabled Legendary, such as Ranger General Sylvanas, who enters the fray with her sisters Alleria and Vereesa, or Gelbin of Tomorrow, who brings Legendary Auras to complement Paladin strategies. Rewind, meanwhile, lets players replay cards with random effects, effectively offering a second chance when a spell or minion ability doesn’t land as intended — a mechanic aimed squarely at Hearthstone’s relationship with RNG.
As usual, Blizzard is offering pre-purchase bundles ahead of launch. The Mega Bundle includes 80 packs, 10 golden packs, multiple random Legendaries (including a signature version), Tavern Tickets, and exclusive cosmetics like the Timewalker Chromie hero skin and card back. A smaller bundle is also available with 60 packs, two random Legendaries, and the themed card back. Both pre-purchase options remain available until release day.
Outside of the core expansion, Hearthstone Battlegrounds is also getting notable changes. Quests are being phased out, while Buddies — companion minions tied to specific Heroes — are making a return. Blizzard also confirmed that Anomalies will reappear in a future update.
With its mix of new mechanics, lore-heavy characters, and changes to its popular Battlegrounds mode, Across the Timeways is Blizzard’s latest attempt to keep the nearly decade-old digital card game feeling fresh while still rooted in Warcraft’s deep backstory.
