Games of the Future 2025 at ADNEC: what fans, players, and studios should expect

Abu Dhabi will host Games of the Future 2025 from 18–23 December at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, positioning the UAE as a showcase for “phygital” sport—events that blend real-world competition with gaming technology. The six-day tournament aligns with the We the UAE 2031 vision and the country’s designation of 2025 as the Year of Community, combining sport, innovation, and youth engagement under one umbrella. For local audiences and visiting teams, the appeal is straightforward: a single venue where clubs, athletes, and gamers compete across fast-moving formats while fans experience both on-site and streamed action.

Organizers say the program will span 11 disciplines, including phygital football and phygital basketball alongside MOBA (PC and mobile) and battle royale events. A mix of international and regional clubs have confirmed participation, such as PBC Astana, Thang Long Warriors, Intercosmics, CD Holcattes, and Great Team Brazil. Phygital football squads México Quetzales – Armadillos FC, CM Jardim, Greni Smith, Z10, FC WHITEBIRD, and La Crema are expected to return following the earlier Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi qualifier. Athlete names already flagged include Rodrigo Ulibarri, Aldair Giorgana, and Matheus Dedo—players who are comfortable bridging traditional sport and competitive gaming.

The staging reflects a broader policy aim. UAE officials frame the event as part of a shift toward a knowledge-led economy and a more diverse sports industry, with an emphasis on youth participation and skills. Rather than headline-grabbing rhetoric, the promise here is practical: an environment where teamwork, physical conditioning, and digital game sense coexist, and where local audiences can see new formats up close. For students and early-career professionals, the build-out around the tournament—production, operations, event tech—also creates exposure to fast-growing roles.

Delivery sits with ASPIRE as local authority, working alongside Ethara as event partner and Phygital International as global rights holder. The Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Ministry of Sports are among the listed stakeholders. The support network matters; without it, these hybrid formats risk being novelties. With it, ADNEC can be reshaped into a modular venue suited to short, watchable contests that move quickly between physical and digital phases.

For the region’s federations and communities, the event’s backers include members of the World Phygital Community such as Phygital Brazil, the Serbian Association of Electronic Sports, and the Belarusian Federation of Phygital Sports. That network signals a push toward standard rulesets and calendars—necessary steps if phygital disciplines are to outgrow exhibition status. The club list isn’t the only marker to watch. Consistent officiating, clear pathways for athletes, and stable broadcast plans will determine whether casual curiosity turns into repeat viewing.

What should UAE players and studios expect? If the event meets its targets, better-defined competition formats and regular regional circuits could follow. It would also raise the bar for local production capabilities—live ops, mixed-reality staging, latency-sensitive networking—areas where GCC organizations have been investing. For families and first-time attendees, the draw is simple: condensed schedules, approachable rules, and spectator-friendly match lengths that suit the December holiday period.

Practical details are straightforward. Games of the Future 2025 runs 18–23 December at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, with schedules, ticketing, and media accreditation listed on gotfabudhabi.com via the event’s media center. Accredited press will have access to competitions, press conferences, interviews, and live streams. As ever with large multi-discipline events, it’s wise to check daily schedules for discipline rotations and finals slots.

For all the talk about “next-gen sport,” the test in December will be less about buzzwords and more about execution. Do the events run on time? Are transitions between physical and digital phases smooth for players and viewers? Can organizers keep formats readable for new audiences while maintaining competitive depth? If the answer to those questions is yes, Games of the Future 2025 will have done more than stage a spectacle—it will have laid groundwork for repeatable, exportable formats that integrate sport and gaming without favoring one at the expense of the other.
