Nearly a decade after development on it was announced, Square Enix have held a number of announcements around Final Fantasy XV, revealing its release date as well as an accompanying spin-off mobile game, movie and anime tie-ins. Brace yourseles, you’ll be able to play Final Fantasy XV on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 on September 30th.
Final Fantasy XV was inititally announced at E3 2006 for the yet unreleased PlayStation 3, though under the name of Final Fantasy XIII. Due to the scale of the game and mishaps along the way, it underwent rebranding; in 2013 was renamed to Final Fantasy XV and was slated for release on current generation consoles. It soon however began being looked upon as a form of vaporware, products that do not come to fruition after being announced to the general public, like Half-Life 3. Luckily that proved to be wrong. However while the release date is an important piece of information, it was just one of many key announcements.
- A free demo, Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo, is available now for both PS4 and Xbox One. Completing it will grant players a special summon for use in the final game.
- Justice Monsters Five, a mobile game for iOS and Android, will tie in to Final Fantasy XV. Pre-registration for the game begins today.
- Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”) and Sean Bean (“The Lord of the Rings”) will provide voices for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, a feature length CG film that takes place concurrently with the story of the game.
- A prequel anime series titled Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV will be released on YouTube in five parts ahead of the game’s release. The first episode is already up.
Furthermore, two special edition versions of the game which are available for pre-purchase on the Square Enix website. The Deluxe Edition contains steelbook packaging, bonus game content ( such as an outfit and sword) and a blu-ray disc of the Kingsglaive Movie.

The Ultimate Collector’s Edition only has 30,000 units and will feature all the content available in the Deluxe Edition as well as the Brotherhood anime blu-ray copy and a blu-ray disc of the soundtrack from the game.

This isn’t the only news from the Final Fantasy series, as it was announced a few months back that there would be a remastered version of Final Fantasy VII.
