When it comes to PC games, the distribution king is Steam, the digital distribution platform developed by the Valve Corporation. However, despite Steam’s ubiquity when it comes to PC gaming Destiny 2 will not be available on it. It will instead be available on BattleNet, the platform that houses all of Blizzard’s IP’s such as StarCraft 2, Diablo, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and Overwatch. It will be the first non-Blizzard game to be made available on the platform.
“We want to let everyone know that a new game will be appearing alongside your favorite Blizzard games—one that’s a little different from what you might normally expect. Bungie’s upcoming first-person action game Destiny 2 will be joining the party! We’re excited to announce that we’re partnering with Bungie and Activision to support the PC version of Destiny 2 exclusively via Battle.net.”
The announcement was made yesterday at an event in Los Angeles, where the company revealed the gameplay trailer for Destiny 2 which can be viewed above. Furthermore, the previously confirmed release date, September 8th, applies only to the console version of the game. The PC version release date still hasn’t been set in stone but will be revealed in the upcoming few weeks. However, a slew of features was revealed for the PC version including 4k resolution support (3820×2160), uncapped framerate, full mouse and keyboard support with custom key mapping, text chat, an adjustable field of view, detailed PC settings screen and 21:9 monitor support.
When it comes to gameplay, Bungie revealed matchmaking system called “Guided Games” that will allow players to join up with clans—even if those players aren’t members—for Destiny 2’s more complex end-game content, such as Nightfalls and raids. Unfortunately for Destiny 2 players, the game will launch with only one raid initially.
Furthermore, Destiny 2 will let players launch activities without having to fly into orbit, and the maps of Destiny 2 will be fleshed out with activities, treasure hunts and dungeons called Lost Sectors. There is also a slew of new classes, including the Titan’s Sentinel, Hunter’s Arcstrider and Warlock’s Dawnblade.
PVP is getting some love too, with a new mode called Countdown being announced. In the mode, players will have to place a bomb in their opponents’ base and then guard it, similar to Counter-Strike. Meanwhile, the new planets players will gain access to are Earth, Titan, Io, and Nessus.
