Techland is expanding its zombie survival title with the release of Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land Edition, alongside a substantial free content update available from March 26. The update introduces a new gameplay mode called “Restored Land,” which shifts the structure of the game toward a more restrictive and consequence-driven experience.
At its core, Restored Land alters how players interact with the game world by removing many of the systems that typically reset over time. Enemies defeated by the player do not respawn, and looted resources are finite. Containers yield fewer supplies, while in-game shops carry limited inventory at higher prices. This effectively turns the game into a resource management challenge, requiring players to plan more carefully and avoid unnecessary risks.

The update also introduces more demanding survival mechanics. Players must monitor hunger and manage equipment durability, including replacing flashlight batteries, all within an environment where materials are limited. Activities such as convoys, dark zones, and hive encounters can only be completed once, reinforcing the idea that each decision has lasting consequences.
An optional “One Life” mode further raises the stakes. In this setting, players are given a single attempt to complete the experience. If the character dies, progress is erased and the game must be restarted from the beginning. This mode is designed for players seeking a higher level of difficulty and offers specific rewards upon completion.
Beyond survival mechanics, the update introduces a gradual world restoration system. As players clear infected areas, parts of the map begin to recover, with non-playable characters returning and environments showing signs of rebuilding. This progression adds a structural shift to the game’s narrative and gameplay loop, where player actions visibly alter the state of the world over time.

Additional content includes “Roadkill Rallies,” a set of vehicle-based challenges that combine combat with route planning across the open world. Performance tracking has also been expanded with friend-based leaderboards across platforms, while global leaderboards are limited to console players.
The update adds 33 new quest encounters, new finishing moves, hidden stashes, and more challenging enemy encounters with increased rewards. Improvements have also been made to co-op gameplay, special infected encounters, and overall performance. The Restored Land Edition bundles these updates with the base game and previously released features, such as New Game+, Nightmare Mode, and technical enhancements including ray tracing support on PC.

Players who already own the standard edition of Dying Light: The Beast will receive the upgraded version at no additional cost. The update reflects a shift toward more demanding, systems-driven gameplay, prioritizing long-term consequences and player decision-making over traditional open-world reset mechanics.
