HMD Global, the company behind Nokia-branded phones, is making a bold move. They’re launching their first original smartphone line, simply called the HMD Pulse series. This marks a departure from exclusively producing Nokia-branded devices and hints at bigger ambitions for the company.
Meet the Pulse Family
The new line features three mid-range phones: HMD Pulse, Pulse Plus, and the flagship Pulse Pro. While specs are similar across the board, cameras are where they differ.
HMD Pulse Pro: The Star
The Pulse Pro sports:
- Unisoc T606 processor for decent performance.
- A massive 5,000mAh battery promising up to 59 hours of use.
- Expandable storage for all your media needs.
- Bright 6.65-inch HD+ display.
- Unique 50MP selfie camera with fun features like gesture control and AI-powered night shots.
- Dual rear cameras with AI optimizations for great portraits.
The Other Two: Mostly the Same
The Pulse and Pulse Plus share most specs with the Pro but downgrade the cameras slightly. All three promise easy DIY repairs thanks to a partnership with iFixit.
Pricing and Availability
The basic HMD Pulse is already on sale in the UK for £99.99. The Pulse Plus and Pro are coming soon. The US will get a similar model, the HMD Vibe, with a Snapdragon chip instead.
Is HMD Rebranding?
This move raises questions: Is HMD distancing itself from the Nokia name? It signals a desire to compete directly in the crowded smartphone market. The Pulse series offers solid features at budget-friendly prices, but whether it can make a splash remains to be seen.
