New Dyson handheld fan brings six-hour battery and quieter airflow to daily commutes

Dyson has launched a new portable handheld fan called the HushJet Mini Cool, marking its first entry into truly wearable and on-the-go cooling devices. Weighing just 212 grams with a six-hour battery life, the compact unit is designed for everyday use in hot climates, offering flexibility as a handheld device, desk fan or hands-free wearable.

The fan delivers airflow speeds of up to 25 metres per second, driven by a brushless DC motor that can reach 65,000 RPM. It features five standard speeds plus a boost mode, allowing users to adjust output from a gentle breeze during travel or work to stronger cooling when needed. Dyson positions the 38mm diameter as a recurring engineering choice across several of its compact products, including the Supersonic hair dryer and PencilVac, reflecting an ongoing focus on reducing size while maintaining performance.

Central to the design is the HushJet nozzle, which aims to project focused airflow with reduced turbulence. The company has paid particular attention to acoustics, lowering high-frequency noise and eliminating the typical whine of small motors. In testing, the fan registers 72.5 dBA at boost mode, dropping to 52 dBA at the lowest speed. This attention to sound quality seeks to make the device more tolerable for extended use in offices, commutes or outdoor settings.

Three colour finishes are available: Ink/Cobalt, which mixes deep and vibrant blues; Carnelian/Sky, pairing a matte red tone with light blue; and Stone/Blush, a soft white with pink undertones inspired by mother-of-pearl. A Dyson colour and materials engineer noted the intent to create emotional resonance through these palettes, though the result remains a matter of personal taste.

The HushJet Mini Cool comes with a neck dock, charging stand, USB-C cable and travel pouch as standard. Optional accessories include a universal mount for prams and a grip clip for bags or clothing, expanding its practical applications for parents, commuters and travellers.

Priced at AED 249 in the UAE and SAR 249 in Saudi Arabia, the fan will be available soon through Dyson’s regional online stores and demo locations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and selected spots in Qatar. Charging takes around three hours for a full cycle, and the 5000 mAh battery supports up to six hours of runtime depending on the selected speed.

While Dyson continues to expand its portfolio of personal environmental control products, this latest release sits in a crowded portable fan market where battery life, noise levels and build quality remain key differentiators. The emphasis on quieter operation and multi-position use addresses common complaints with existing handheld fans, but real-world performance in extreme heat and long-term durability will ultimately determine its appeal.
