The Renault 4, a car that captured the spirit of the 1960s with its practicality and versatility, is making a comeback. This time, however, it’s ditching the petrol and embracing the future as an all-electric family car.

Unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, the new Renault 4 E-Tech draws inspiration from its iconic predecessor while incorporating modern design and cutting-edge technology. Built on the same platform as the Renault 5 E-Tech, this compact crossover aims to appeal to a wide range of drivers, just like the original.

A Nod to the Past, a Leap into the Future

The new Renault 4 E-Tech retains the signature silhouette of the original, with a distinctive grille, flat bonnet, and spacious rear cargo area. A modern touch comes in the form of an optional canvas sunroof, reminiscent of the classic model’s open-air feel.

Under the hood, however, it’s a different story. The electric powertrain offers two options:

  • Urban: 40kWh battery, 120bhp motor, 185-mile range
  • Comfort: 52kWh battery, 150bhp motor, 250-mile range

This allows drivers to choose the configuration that best suits their needs. Both versions support fast charging and come equipped with an 11kW AC charger for home use. The Renault 4 E-Tech also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, enabling you to power external devices using the car’s battery.

Tech-Savvy and Sustainable

Inside, the Renault 4 E-Tech boasts a modern and tech-focused interior. A 10-inch central display, powered by Android Automotive, provides access to Google Maps, apps, and Assistant. Renault also introduces its own AI assistant, Reno, which can answer questions about the car and even access ChatGPT for general knowledge queries.

Sustainability is a key focus, with the car incorporating recycled materials in its construction.

More Than Just a Car

Renault aims to make the new 4 E-Tech more than just a mode of transport. It’s designed to be a lifestyle companion, offering practicality, connectivity, and a touch of nostalgia. And for those who want to complete the classic French experience, there’s even an optional wicker basket for carrying your baguette.

The Renault 4 E-Tech is expected to hit the roads in 2025, with pricing positioned between the Renault 5 E-Tech and the Megane E-Tech. With its blend of retro charm and modern technology, it’s poised to be a popular choice for families and individuals seeking a stylish and versatile electric vehicle.
