General Motors is making a significant move into the world of Formula 1 racing, partnering with TWG Global to launch a Cadillac team in the 2026 season. This marks a major milestone for the American automaker, as Cadillac will be the first new team to join the F1 grid since 2016.

GM is not just entering Formula 1 as a constructor; they are also developing their own F1 power unit. This commitment to a “full works” team approach signifies their ambition to be a competitive force in the sport. The knowledge and technology gained from competing in Formula 1 will undoubtedly contribute to GM’s ongoing advancements in electrification, powertrain development, and software engineering.

This venture also provides Cadillac with a global platform to showcase its design and engineering capabilities to a diverse international audience. Formula 1’s immense popularity offers a unique opportunity to elevate the Cadillac brand and demonstrate GM’s technological prowess on the world stage.

Leading the Cadillac Formula 1 team is a seasoned group of professionals with expertise in aerodynamics, chassis development, and vehicle dynamics simulation. The team has established operations in the United States and the United Kingdom, bringing together talent and resources from both sides of the Atlantic.

Adding to the team’s legacy, American racing legend Mario Andretti, the last American F1 Champion, will serve as a director on the team’s board. Andretti’s involvement brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the sport to the Cadillac F1 team.

General Motors has a long and successful history in motorsports, with a track record of developing high-performance powertrains and achieving numerous victories across various racing disciplines. This experience, combined with the expertise of their partners at TWG Global, positions the Cadillac Formula 1 team for a promising future in the world’s most prestigious motorsport competition.
