BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pickup debuts in the UAE with 520 km range

Al-Futtaim BYD UAE has introduced the BYD Shark 6, the region’s first plug-in hybrid pickup, aiming to bring a new balance of performance, efficiency, and versatility to the UAE’s midsize truck market. The launch highlights both BYD’s growing influence in the new energy vehicle segment and Al-Futtaim’s strategy to expand sustainable mobility options across the country.

Built on BYD’s DMO Super-Hybrid platform, the Shark 6 blends a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors to deliver 429 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. This translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds, a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes, and a combined driving range of up to 520 km. Terrain-specific modes for mud, sand, and snow make it as adaptable off-road as it is on UAE highways, supported by long-travel double wishbone independent suspension for stability and comfort.

Design plays a central role in how the Shark 6 sets itself apart. Its front light signature draws inspiration from a shark’s open mouth, while the tail-lamp design echoes a shark’s fin. Inside, the truck offers a high-end cabin with ventilated front seats, an 8-speaker Dirac sound system, a 10.25-inch instrument display, and a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen that switches between portrait and landscape modes. Safety credentials are strong, too, with a 5-star Latin NCAP rating and features such as 360° surround view, adaptive cruise control, and head-up display.

Utility extends beyond traditional pickup expectations thanks to Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, which lets users power external equipment directly from the vehicle—a feature well suited to camping, outdoor work, or emergencies. This, combined with its mix of power and economy, positions the Shark 6 as a multi-purpose option for both adventure and everyday use.

For Al-Futtaim, the launch strengthens its push to establish a nationwide ecosystem for new energy vehicles, from charging infrastructure to financing solutions. The Shark 6 will be available for test drives from September 25 across BYD showrooms in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Al Ain.
