A new Federal regulation for use of commercial drones will be released next month.

Khalid Al Arif, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority’s (DCAA) director of standards and regulations, said that the regulation has been “completed” by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and accepted and is expected to be published next month.

The new regulation comes after Dubai International airport air traffic was temporarily closed in January due to a drone breaching its restricted airspace.

The new regulation of drones include restrictions such as banning flights over congested residential and industrial areas, restricting drones from flying higher than 90m and not more than 300m away from any person, vehicle or structure.

The new law will be published online.
