Android users finally catching up to iPhone in ChatGPT Health

ChatGPT may soon be able to read the health data Android users collect from their phones, smartwatches and fitness trackers. A teardown of version 1.2026.300 of the ChatGPT Android app, reported by Android Authority, found code pointing to a Google Health integration. The feature is not live, the related permissions are not active, and OpenAI has not announced anything. For now, this is evidence of work in progress rather than a launch.

APK teardowns are a common way to spot features early. They work by examining unfinished code inside an app before that code does anything visible. That makes them useful, but also unreliable as a guide to timing, because features found this way are sometimes delayed, reworked or dropped. In this case the new code activities reportedly suggest development is well along, though what they will do in practice is still unclear.

The reason this matters is a platform gap. ChatGPT Health arrived earlier this year, with OpenAI widening the rollout in July, and it is now broadly available to users in the US on both iOS and Android. Only iPhone owners can feed it personal data, though. OpenAI’s own documentation lists Apple Health and supported medical records as connected sources, and connecting Apple Health requires an iPhone. Android users can open ChatGPT Health, but they have no equivalent way to share their own activity, sleep or heart rate data with it.

Google Health could fix that. Data from a wide range of Android wearables usually syncs through it, so a single connection could give ChatGPT access to readings from many different devices without OpenAI building separate integrations for each brand. For Google, that would also mean the health platform it controls becomes a pipeline into a rival company’s AI assistant.

That convenience comes with real concerns. ChatGPT recently drew criticism after reportedly giving fatal advice to a woman taking seizure medication, a case that shows how much harm a confident but wrong answer can do once health is involved. OpenAI says ChatGPT Health is not meant for diagnosis or treatment. Even so, connecting more personal data to the assistant can make its answers feel more authoritative than they are, and that disclaimer is easy to overlook.

There is also the matter of where the feature works. OpenAI says ChatGPT Health is available to eligible users in the US, and there has been no word on availability in the UAE or the wider Middle East. Even if Google Health support arrives soon, users in the region may not be able to use it, and the more important question is whether OpenAI can show that broader access to health data makes the assistant safer as well as more useful.
