Apple’s Siri AI is finally learning to speak beyond English. With watchOS 27.2 and macOS Golden Gate 27.2 now rolling out, the assistant that debuted alongside the 27-series software adds support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, a language expansion Apple first promised back in September. The updates arrived alongside tvOS, visionOS and HomePod releases carrying the same version number.
The language expansion matters more than any single feature in either update. Shipping a headline AI assistant in English only shut out a large share of Apple’s global customer base, and this release is the first real attempt to close that gap. Some users are still excluded, though. Apple’s release notes state that Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU and mainland China, and the company has given no timeline for either market.
On the Apple Watch, watchOS 27.2 is the first major update to watchOS 27, and the changes go deeper than translation. Siri AI can now remember earlier conversations, so you can ask it about something it said previously, such as restaurant suggestions from last week. It also pulls from more personal data on your iPhone, including photos shared in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history and the Reading List. A new Excluded Apps setting on the phone gives users one place to decide which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. That control will be welcome given how much more data the assistant now reads.
Apple also says Siri AI responds faster on the watch. Early adopters have criticised the assistant’s speed on wrist-worn hardware, so how much faster it really is will be the main question once the update reaches more people. To install it, open the Settings app on the watch or the Watch app on a paired iPhone. The watch must be on its charger with at least 50 percent battery.
macOS Golden Gate 27.2 is quieter on the surface but more interesting underneath. It adds new gesture recognition tools to several built-in apps, which looks like groundwork for the touchscreen MacBook Pro widely expected at Apple’s “Pro and Tell” event on Wednesday. The Apple Music icon also changes from red-and-white to black-and-white, following the service’s recent rebrand. Beta testers had reported a bug that stopped Electron app windows from responding to drag attempts, and it appears to be fixed.
Apple had not yet published full security notes for the Mac update at the time of release, but security fixes are likely included, so updating soon is sensible. The bigger question comes on Wednesday: are those new gesture tools a sign that macOS is about to be redesigned for touch?
