Pink October campaigns tend to blur together by mid-month, with ribbons, pink-lit facades and discount codes doing a lot of the talking. Two upcoming weekends at Times Square Center in Dubai take a more practical approach, giving visitors something to make on one day and free health checks on another.
The first, Sew Pink, runs on Saturday, 17 October from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Picnic Square on the mall’s first floor. Volunteers will stitch post-surgery comfort cushions and drainage bag holders for breast cancer patients in the UAE. These items are rarely discussed outside hospital wards, but they matter to anyone recovering from a mastectomy, where seatbelts, sleeping positions and surgical drains can make ordinary routines uncomfortable.

The session is led by Brother International (Gulf) FZE, the regional arm of the sewing machine maker, working with the support group Brest Friends. Each finished piece goes into a Care Pack with a handwritten note, and the packs are distributed through Brest Friends and partner medical institutions. No sewing experience is required, all materials are supplied, and anyone can join. Registration is free through signup.com/go/nqeOzzZ. A brand running a sewing drive is good publicity, but this one produces tangible items that reach actual patients.
The following Sunday, 25 October, the ground floor hosts Pink Power 3 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This third edition is organised by Creative Makers Events in support of the Al Jalila Foundation’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. The main draw for many visitors will be free medical check-ups and awareness talks from Saudi German Health Dubai specialists. The organisers haven’t said what the check-ups include or whether spots are limited, so arriving early is probably wise if that’s why you’re going.
Around the health element, the day leans heavily on festival energy. There is an opening parade, live performances, a Pink Flash Mob, workshops for adults and children, and a pop-up market of homegrown brands. Entry is free, and visitors are encouraged to wear pink.

Together, the two events cover the two sides of awareness campaigns. Sew Pink focuses on people already living with a diagnosis, while Pink Power focuses on getting people screened and informed before one. For families looking for free weekend activities in Dubai this month, both are easy to fit around a mall visit. The real test of events like these is whether a few relaxed conversations at a check-up booth lead someone to book the screening they have been postponing.
