INIU’s new rugged power bank survives drops, dust and dunking

INIU has built its name on affordable power banks that end up in most travel bags without much thought. Its new INIU Outdoor division is trying to change that with the Rugged 10000, a 10,000mAh battery made for people who spend more time on trails than in airport lounges. It’s the first product in a planned Rugged Series, with a larger Rugged 20000 and a 28W solar panel promised soon.

On paper, the Rugged 10000 covers what outdoor users actually care about. It carries an IP67 rating against dust and water immersion, and it has been drop-tested from 1.2 metres under the MIL-STD-810G 516.6 shock method. A silicone-armoured shell is meant to protect both the battery and whatever it rattles against inside a pack. The interesting part is the weight. At 195.7g, it lands roughly where an ordinary 10,000mAh brick does, so the ruggedisation doesn’t seem to add much bulk. Ultralight hikers counting every gram may still prefer stripped-down alternatives, but for most day hikers the difference is negligible.

Output tops out at 45W across two USB-C ports. That’s fast enough for phones, cameras and smaller tablets, and more than most rugged banks in this capacity offer. INIU says its internal testing gets 1.7 iPhone 17 charges or 3.5 charges of a Garmin inReach Mini 3 from a full battery, which sounds about right given normal conversion losses. A low-current mode handles earbuds, headlamps and other small devices that standard fast-charging banks often fail to detect.

The outdoor features go beyond the spec sheet. A detachable carabiner clips the bank to a pack strap, and a standard 1/4-inch tripod thread lets cyclists or photographers mount it directly to gear. A built-in light offers steady white, steady red for preserving night vision, and a flashing red emergency mode. A sealed port cover keeps grit out, though it’s worth confirming whether the IP67 rating applies only with that cover closed, as is usually the case.

INIU is also leaning on partnerships, with Strava and the American Hiking Society attached to the launch. Those deals help with credibility, but they say nothing about how the hardware holds up after a season of mud and cold mornings. The five-year warranty is more reassuring, and longer than most power bank makers offer.

The Rugged 10000 costs $54.99, £54.99 or €54.99 through Amazon and INIU’s own store, with a Forest Camo version at Target for $49.99. Regional availability for the Middle East hasn’t been announced. The real test of the Rugged Series may come with the solar panel, since 28W panels rarely deliver anything close to their rated output under real skies.
