Clarkson is growing a car on his farm in bizarre new special

Jeremy Clarkson is about to take “farming a car” far more literally than anyone could reasonably expect. Prime Video has announced Jeremy Grows a Car: A Clarkson’s Farm Special, a one-off 2027 episode that will send Clarkson back toward the automotive world that made him famous.

The premise is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds. Clarkson will attempt to build and restore a car using materials produced on his own Diddly Squat farm, with the project aiming to prove that the agricultural world can contribute more to the automotive industry than simply providing a place to park a tractor.

His starting point is a Jaguar F-Type V6S, which Clarkson plans to restore with materials sourced from the farm. That includes leather produced by Diddly Squat for the interior and wool for the carpets.

The more unusual part of the project involves flax. Clarkson will attempt to grow a crop that can be turned into a sustainable flax-composite material, intended as an alternative to carbon fibre. Prime Video says the material is already attracting interest from major car manufacturers, although the special will likely be more interested in the inevitable chaos of getting Clarkson to produce it himself.

Perhaps the smartest decision is bringing in someone who actually knows how to design cars. Clarkson will be working with Ian Callum CBE, the legendary designer behind the original Jaguar F-Type, as well as the Jaguar XK and C-X75. His portfolio also includes the Aston Martin DB7, DB9 and Vanquish, along with work on the Ford RS200 and Nissan R390.

That pairing should make for an entertaining collision of expertise and Clarkson-style experimentation. Callum has spent decades designing some of the world’s most recognisable performance cars, while Clarkson has spent an equally impressive amount of time enthusiastically breaking, driving and complaining about them.

The special also marks a notable return to Clarkson’s automotive roots. His final Grand Tour episode aired in 2024, while Clarkson’s Farm has increasingly become associated with the much more complicated realities of running Diddly Squat.

Jeremy Grows a Car could therefore bridge both sides of Clarkson’s television career: the agricultural chaos of Clarkson’s Farm and the petrolhead obsession that defined his earlier work.

Prime Video hasn’t announced a specific premiere date yet, but the special is confirmed to air sometime in 2027. Given the idea of Clarkson attempting to turn crops from his farm into components for a Jaguar, it may be one of the strangest car projects television has attempted in a while.
