Amazon has rebuilt its entire Kindle range from the display up, and the UAE gets an early look. The new six-inch Kindle is available for preorder now. The redesigned Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft are confirmed but have no release date yet. Interested buyers can only register on the product pages to be told when they go on sale.
The change shared across the lineup is a new way of building the screen. Amazon calls it a reverse stack display construction and says it is a first for e-readers. In practice, every model now has a flush front, with no raised border around the reading surface. Paperwhite owners have had flush screens for years. The entry-level Kindle has not, so the cheapest model gains the most visually. The device colour also now runs from back to front, edge to edge. The palette includes Ube (a deep purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite and Fig, the last appearing on an e-reader for the first time.
The base Kindle is the most compact Amazon has made. It has 16GB of storage and a battery rated for up to six weeks, and Amazon says books open 30 percent faster than on the previous lineup. It costs AED 659 in Ube or Graphite. A new aluminium-backed version keeps the same size, doubles storage to 32GB, and costs AED 729 in Alpine Sky or Seaglass Green. Amazon says that housing is 80 percent recycled aluminium. The standard model uses recycled materials and a battery made with fully recycled cobalt.
The Paperwhite is thinner, lighter and still waterproof. It has an adjustable warm light and a battery rated for up to 12 weeks. Amazon says it has the largest Paperwhite screen yet and the highest contrast ratio, thanks to an oxide thin-film transistor backplane. The exact screen size has not been confirmed. The 16GB model costs AED 849. The AED 959 Signature Edition adds an aluminium back, 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light and double-tap page turning.
The Colorsoft may be the most closely watched model. The first version had a rocky launch, with some early units showing yellowish tinting along the screen edge. This time Amazon lists several changes to the screen’s lighting and backplane. They include nitride LEDs in the light guide, tiny deflectors to cut stray light, custom waveforms for faster performance, and a thin optical coating meant to improve clarity. Whether those fixes deliver more even colour will only become clear once units reach readers. Pricing starts at AED 1,119, or AED 1,229 for the Signature Edition in Graphite or Fig.
Amazon also says Kindle has posted double-digit growth for three years running, with more than 720 billion pages read in 2025. The bigger question is how long Paperwhite and Colorsoft buyers in the region will have to wait.
