Xiaomi usually makes international buyers wait a while after a flagship debuts in China. That gap is shrinking this year. Company president Lu Weibing has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will launch globally in November, with Europe, the Americas and the Middle East all on the list. No exact date has been given, but for buyers in the UAE, it means one of the year’s more ambitious Android flagships should arrive far sooner than usual.
The timing matters for more than impatient fans. An earlier global rollout lets Xiaomi put Qualcomm’s newest chips into international hands before rival brands, with the Pro running the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Pro Max getting the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Being first counts for a lot in a flagship market where specs often converge within weeks.
The most unusual design choice is on the back. Both phones carry a secondary AMOLED display next to the cameras, measuring 2.7 inches on the Pro and 2.9 inches on the Pro Max, alongside privacy screen technology. The main screens are LTPO AMOLED panels at 6.4 inches and 6.9 inches respectively, and every display runs at up to 120Hz. Whether a rear screen proves genuinely useful or ends up as a novelty will depend heavily on how well HyperOS 4, based on Android 17, makes use of it.
Cameras are co-engineered with Leica and are identical across both models. There’s a 200MP main sensor with an f/1.67 aperture and optical stabilisation, a second 200MP sensor behind a stabilised 3.2x telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide, with a 50MP camera on the front. Two 200MP sensors on the rear signals how seriously Xiaomi is treating zoom photography this generation.
Battery capacity is a big step up, at 7,000mAh for the Pro and 8,500mAh for the Pro Max, with 100W fast charging on both. There’s a catch, though. Regulations in some international regions may force Xiaomi to ship slightly smaller batteries than the Chinese versions, and the company hasn’t said which markets are affected.
Memory options include 12GB or 16GB of RAM with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage. Durability is covered by IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings, with 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and NFC for connectivity. The Pro weighs 203g, while the Pro Max comes in at 235g.
International pricing hasn’t been announced. Early expectations point to a modest rise over last year, reflecting higher costs in China, but until Xiaomi confirms figures, that remains the biggest unanswered question for anyone planning to buy one.
