HONOR is betting that some buyers care more about battery and heat than about having the most elaborate camera on the market. The new Magic9 Super Edition, which went on sale in China on 28 September, carries an 11,000mAh battery and a built-in cooling fan, with pricing starting at CNY 4,500 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. HONOR has not said whether the phone will reach international markets, so there is no UAE price or release date yet.
The battery is the obvious headline. It’s the biggest in the Magic9 family by some margin, with the standard Magic9 at 8,000mAh and the Magic9 Pro Max at 8,800mAh. Charging runs at 80W wired and 50W wireless, the same as the base model, and the phone can top up other devices through 27W reverse wired charging. The Pro Max still charges faster, at 100W wired and 80W wireless. What HONOR hasn’t provided is any battery-life testing, so claims about multi-day endurance will have to wait for real-world use. A bigger cell is a strong starting point, but efficiency and software tuning decide how long a phone actually lasts.
Then there’s the fan. Inside is a 30,000rpm active cooling unit working alongside a large vapour chamber, with the system rated to dissipate up to 12W of heat. HONOR says the ducted design improves heat dissipation by 30 percent. Those figures describe the hardware rather than proven gaming performance, and it remains to be seen how well the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 holds its peak speeds under long sessions, or how noticeable the fan is. Despite all this, the phone measures 8.1mm thick and weighs 227g, which is heavy but not extreme given the battery.
The display is a 6.81-inch LTPS OLED panel at 2,788 × 1,280 resolution, with a 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colour, HDR support and peak global brightness of 2,000 nits. Dolby Vision isn’t supported, and earlier reports of a 165Hz panel turned out to be wrong.
Cameras are where the Super Edition steps back from the Pro Max. It has a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP 3x telephoto and a 12MP autofocus ultra-wide, plus a 50MP selfie camera. The rear setup records 4K at up to 120fps, and HONOR’s H1 imaging chip is on board, along with support for the G200 teleconverter accessory. The Pro Max, by contrast, pairs two 200MP cameras with ARRI colour tuning and a newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
Colour options are Black, Olive Green, Yellow and White. For UAE buyers, the practical advice is patience, since imported units may not carry local warranty support and an official regional launch hasn’t been confirmed.
