Starlink is officially available in the UAE, giving residents a new alternative to the fibre and 5G services offered by e& and du. The launch follows the UAE granting Starlink a 10-year licence covering individuals, businesses and government entities.

Unlike conventional UAE broadband, Starlink doesn’t need fibre running to your building or a nearby 5G tower. Its connection comes from SpaceX’s low Earth orbit satellite network, making it particularly interesting for remote and difficult-to-connect locations.

Residential service is designed for a fixed land-based address, so don’t assume the AED 300 home package can follow you everywhere. Starlink says Residential doesn’t support roaming or in-motion use; traveling requires an appropriate Roam plan.

Is Starlink worth AED 220 per month?

It depends almost entirely on what you’re replacing. If you’re suffering through poor connectivity because fibre isn’t available and cellular broadband isn’t reliable, AED 220 per month for unlimited satellite internet capable is genuinely compelling.

If excellent fibre already runs into your home, the argument becomes weaker. Starlink is impressive technology, but routing your Netflix binge through space doesn’t automatically make it better. Gamers and other latency-sensitive users should particularly favour a strong fibre connection when one is available.
