PlayStation is bringing State of Play back this week, with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Revelation taking the headline slot as Sony prepares to showcase another batch of upcoming PS5 games.
The next State of Play will stream on Thursday, September 3 at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST. Sony says the presentation will feature announcements and updates from PlayStation Studios alongside third-party developers, before wrapping up with an extended look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
That makes Revelation the clearest reason to tune in. The game is expected in early 2027 and will conclude Square Enix’s ambitious Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. With launch getting closer, an extended presentation should offer a better idea of how the final chapter expands its world, gameplay and story following Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Sony hasn’t revealed the rest of the State of Play lineup, leaving plenty of room for speculation. Marvel’s Wolverine is approaching its September 15 release, making another appearance possible, while fans will inevitably be watching for updates on other major PlayStation projects. Nothing beyond the confirmed lineup should be taken for granted, however.
The main broadcast will also be followed by a separate State of Play Japan presentation focused on games from studios across Japan and Asia. Sony says viewers can expect gameplay, announcements and deeper looks at upcoming releases, although the length of either presentation has not been confirmed.
For Final Fantasy fans, though, September 3 is already shaping up as an important date. Revelation has the difficult job of bringing Square Enix’s sprawling reinterpretation of one of gaming’s most famous stories to a satisfying close — and this State of Play should provide the clearest look yet at how it plans to do that.
