iOS 27 public beta 2 expands Siri AI and Liquid Glass refinements

Apple has released the second round of public betas for its upcoming operating systems, giving a wider group of users early access to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, and tvOS 27. The coordinated drop arrives just over a week after the initial public betas, continuing a familiar pattern of rapid iteration ahead of the expected fall launches.

The most prominent addition across the mobile platforms remains Siri AI. Apple positions the updated assistant as capable of sustained conversations inside a dedicated app, drawing on personal context, recognizing on-screen content, and executing tasks that span multiple applications. These claims echo broader industry efforts to make voice interfaces more conversational, yet past Siri upgrades have often delivered uneven results in real-world use. Early testing will determine how consistently the system maintains context or handles complex multi-step requests without falling back on familiar limitations.

Interface refinements center on the Liquid Glass design language. A new transparency slider appears in iOS and iPadOS, while Apple cites performance gains of up to 30 percent faster app launches and 80 percent quicker nearby AirDrop transfers, including on older supported hardware. Such percentages warrant cautious interpretation until independent measurements confirm them under typical conditions. Design systems like Liquid Glass tend to evolve across multiple release cycles, and the second beta mainly adjusts readability, toolbar uniformity, and window shapes rather than introducing radical departures.

On the Mac side, macOS Golden Gate incorporates the same Siri AI experience into Spotlight and adds Visual Intelligence for analyzing screen content. Flexible aspect ratios for iPhone Mirroring expand the continuity features that have become a quiet strength of Apple’s ecosystem. The second public beta matches the latest developer build, signaling that Apple is keeping both tracks relatively synchronized this cycle.

Wearable and living-room platforms receive more modest but practical updates. watchOS 27 brings Siri AI to the wrist when paired with a compatible iPhone, allows Workout Buddy coaching without a nearby phone, and improves treadmill tracking accuracy. tvOS 27 redesigns the Podcasts app, adds Hi-Res Lossless and AutoMix support in Apple Music, and claims faster AirPlay connections. HomePod software receives a parallel update. These changes continue Apple’s long-running effort to keep secondary devices feeling current without major overhauls.

Public betas remain imperfect by design. Users interested in testing can enroll through the Apple Beta Software Program and install the updates via Software Update, though the standard advice holds: use secondary devices or create full backups first. Previous beta seasons have occasionally introduced stability issues that take weeks to resolve, and the accelerated cadence this year may compress the time available for polishing before general release.

Taken as a whole, the second public betas offer a clearer view of Apple’s priorities for 2026—deeper AI integration, refined visual consistency, and incremental performance claims—while leaving many practical questions about reliability and everyday usefulness still open.
