Thin smartphones usually make you choose what you’re willing to sacrifice. Tecno is trying to make that compromise less painful with the Camon Slim 5G, a 6.39mm-thick Android phone that still manages to squeeze in a 6,000mAh battery, while using its unusually elaborate rear finishes to stand out in an increasingly crowded market.
Underneath the design experiments is a fairly conventional mid-range smartphone. The Camon Slim 5G runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300e chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Tecno has fitted a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 1208 x 2644 resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate.
Photography is led by a 50-megapixel main camera using Sony’s Lytia 700C, a relatively large 1/1.56-inch sensor equipped with optical image stabilisation. An 8-megapixel ultrawide sits alongside it, while selfies are handled by a 32-megapixel front camera.
The battery is arguably more noteworthy than the processor. Packing 6,000mAh into a body measuring just 6.39mm thick addresses one of the most obvious concerns surrounding ultra-thin phones: endurance. Charging tops out at 45W wired, so Tecno isn’t chasing the extreme charging speeds available elsewhere, but the larger battery could prove more useful day to day. Actual battery life, of course, will depend on software optimisation and that high-refresh display.
Software support is also respectable on paper. The Camon Slim ships with HiOS 16 based on Android 16, with Tecno promising three major Android upgrades and five years of security updates. The company also cites TÜV SÜD certification covering 60 months of sustained performance, although that certification shouldn’t be confused with a guarantee that an ageing phone will feel identical five years from now.
Despite the thin construction, Tecno is making ambitious durability claims. The phone carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water protection and is listed as meeting MIL-STD-810H testing requirements for shock and drops.
Then there are the finishes, which are clearly intended to be part of the Camon Slim’s identity rather than an afterthought. Six versions are offered: Neo Mondrian, Gossamer White, Matisse Black, Rebel Pink, Van Gogh Blue and Burgundy Red.
Neo Mondrian is particularly unusual, using a photochromic rear panel that starts white before coloured grid sections appear under ultraviolet light. Gossamer White creates a three-dimensional butterfly-wing illusion, while Van Gogh Blue uses a patterned gradient intended to evoke a rotating nebula. Other options combine fibreglass construction with fluorescent details, contrasting accents or a matte, velvet-like appearance.
Pricing and availability weren’t included in the supplied announcement, leaving a crucial part of the Camon Slim 5G story unanswered. On specifications alone, though, Tecno has avoided making thinness its only trick. A 6,000mAh battery inside a 6.39mm body is arguably more interesting than any colour-changing back panel.
