Capcom has announced Resident Evil Survival Unit, a new mobile spin-off set to launch on iOS and Android. The game will be co-developed by Aniplex Inc. and Korean studio Joycity, marking a strategic expansion of the Resident Evil franchise into the mobile gaming market.
Resident Evil Survival Unit is described as a strategy game, offering a different approach compared to the series’ traditional survival horror gameplay. While Capcom has not yet detailed how the game fits into the broader Resident Evil universe, the title aims to deliver an experience that expands the franchise’s reach and appeals to mobile strategy enthusiasts.
A full reveal of Resident Evil Survival Unit is scheduled for July 10 at 6pm ET, where more gameplay and story details are expected. In its announcement, Joycity highlighted that the game will allow fans to engage with the Resident Evil world from a new strategic perspective, diverging from the action-focused format seen in previous console and PC releases.
Joycity’s involvement signals a commitment to the strategy genre, as the studio is currently working on Disney Realm Breakers, another mobile strategy title featuring Disney IPs such as Toy Story and The Incredibles. The developer is also known for Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War, a free-to-play real-time strategy game that maintains a strong 4.4-star average rating from over 210,000 reviews on the Google Play Store.
The partnership with Aniplex and Joycity is intended to ensure authenticity and quality, with Capcom stating that the game is being developed in close collaboration to maintain consistency with the Resident Evil brand. This approach reflects Capcom’s wider strategy of expanding the franchise’s footprint beyond console gaming, tapping into the growing mobile gaming market while reaching new demographics.
The announcement follows Capcom’s recent reveal of Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the series, which was introduced in June during SGF 25. Requiem will feature a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, and will offer both first-person and third-person gameplay perspectives from launch—a first in the series.
While Resident Evil Survival Unit may not deliver the traditional horror experience fans associate with the brand, its mobile strategy focus indicates Capcom’s intent to diversify gameplay formats within the Resident Evil universe. The upcoming showcase on July 10 should provide greater clarity on the gameplay mechanics, monetisation model, and storyline integration within the wider franchise.
